Lobenberg: Bei jedem Riesling aus Österreich frag ich mich immer ob man ihn ob der wahnsinnigen deutschen Konkurrenz braucht. Nur wenn er sehr eigenständig ist und eine eigene, nichtdeutsche Geschmackswelt abdeckt, so wie dieser Steinmassel. Nur 13% Alkohol, das ist ein toller Wert. Weinbergpfirsich, etwas Grapefruit, Litschi und Birne, ein Hauch Exotik nur von Ananas, salzig mineralischer Nachhall. Schön schlank für einen Österreicher und blitzsauber ohne Botrytis. Macht Spaß. 94/100

-- Falstaff: Helles Gelbgrün, Silberreflexe. Mit einem feinen Holzhauch unterlegte gelbe Steinobstnuancen, frische Orangenzesten, dunkle Mineralität, öffnet sich mit Luft. Mittlere Komplexität, weiße Tropenfrucht, präsenter Säurebogen, feiner Blütenhonig, etwas Papaya im Nachhall, zitroniger Rückgeschmack. 93/100

-- Wine Enthusiast: Delicious notions of ripe greengages haunt the nose, alongside fragrant orange peel. The palate is still taut and tight, sprightly and streamlined, as if powered and propelled forward by invisible citrus force. There is such drive and precision here, you almost feel movement and speed. The finish is clean but clearly this is for the longer run. It will take bottle age for this to reveal its scented, fruit-laden core. Drink 2022–2040. 95/100

-- Galloni: Lemon peel, white peach, and a meadow-like amalgam of grasses, herbs and flowers entertain the nose. The palate impression here is firm by vintage standards, infectiously juicy, and transparent to floral and coolingly green herbal nuances. The long, adamantly dry finish introduces the sort of shimmeringly crystalline nuances that were found in this year’s “regular” Steinmassl Riesling, along with a mouthwateringly marine mineral mélange. - David Schildknecht 93-94/100

-- Parker: The 2015 Riesling Steinmassel 1ÖTW Reserve is clear, piquant and fresh on the nose, with ripe, concentrated but precise and coolish stone fruit aromas intermixed with spicy/mineral flavors of crystalline rocks. On the palate, this is a full-bodied and creamy yet pure, dry and highly elegant Riesling with a good (tannin) structure, great tension, finesse and lingering salinity. The finish is very long and intense, indicating great aging potential. The Steinmassl Reserve is from the best plots of the cru, which are all on gneiss and paragneiss and were harvested 10 to 14 days later than the regular Steinmassel. 92+/100
